Taught by Inseus teacher Stefanie Harris, with co-teacher Erin Flanagan—both are trained through the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion. Stefanie is also a Qualified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher through UCSD's Center for Mindfulness and a Certified Hudson Institute Executive Coach. She has over 25 years of corporate experience, including 12 years as a Senior Leader at Amazon. As a mother of two, a former college athlete, and a corporate veteran, Stefanie knows how mindfulness and self-compassion can have a huge impact when navigating high-stress, performance-driven atmospheres. Erin is also a Qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher through UCSD's Center for Mindfulness. Erin's work as a registered nurse has greatly influenced her approach to mindfulness and meditation, which she practices as a way to meet moments of joy and struggle with a sense of equanimity so that life can be infused with greater kindness, patience, and understanding.
The Mindful Self-Compassion curriculum was developed by by Christopher K. Germer, PhD, leader in the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy, and Kristin Neff, PhD, pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion.
MSC combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion, providing a powerful tool for emotional resilience. Mindfulness is the first step in emotional healing—being able to turn toward and acknowledge our difficult thoughts and feelings (such as inadequacy, sadness, anger, confusion) with a spirit of openness and curiosity. Self-compassion involves responding to these difficult thoughts and feelings with kindness, sympathy and understanding so that we soothe and comfort ourselves when we’re hurting. Research has shown that self-compassion greatly enhances emotional wellbeing. It boosts happiness, reduces anxiety and depression, and can even help maintain healthy lifestyle habits such as diet and exercise. Being both mindful and compassionate leads to greater ease and well-being in our daily lives.
In MSC you’ll learn:
how to stop being so hard on yourself
how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
how to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism
how to transform difficult relationships, both old and new
mindfulness and self-compassion practices for home and everyday life
the theory and research behind mindful self-compassion
This course’s experiential sessions teach the principles of MSC through mixed modalities, including several types of mindfulness meditation, awareness-building activities, group inquiry, readings, and more. You’ll leave the course with a toolkit of practices and exercises to help integrate mindful self-compassion into your daily life.
